Morbid fascination

My apartment watches American Idol because we'd like to think that we can hold a tune better than these delusional auditions. Everyone's a critic.

However, some people just stick out because they are just. so. bad. This guy was horribly great. Check out Renaldo Lapuz:

I'm still hoping he's not Vietnamese. But he talks like my dad...so that hope is very slim. But he got Randy, Paula, and Simon to dance with him. Props!

My Inner Nerd

Yes, I am a fan of Apple because I love my MacBook Pro and my faithful 1st generation Ipod Nano . And so, every year I look forward to the occasional Steve Jobs keynote. It always happens during work so you'll find me following along and refreshing the live blog every 5 minutes. The only dilemma I face is figuring out which blog to choose! The number has definitely grown over the years. Well this year, there was a clear winner.

Jason Chen of Gizmodo won me over with this comment before the keynote began:

"Steve’s added a new song to his playlist this year. Kanye. No one can say Steve Jobs doesn’t care about black iPods."

I'm rooting for a sub notebook. Goooo small-tiny-notebook-that-will-be-too-expensive-for-me-to-afford-right-now-but-possibly-be -able-to-consider-in-a-couple-years!

paparazzi run-in

It all started out with Regina Spektor. Best Buy closes at 9pm and it was 8:40 and her CD was only available at the BB in Culver City. Hey, why not? It shouldn't take 20 minutes!

...

22 minutes later. Stupid road construction. We got there right when the gate was coming down. Sadness...

It's ok. We had another mission last night: Lollicup. Thankfully we were successful on this task and drove back to the apartment. On the way back, we waited to take a left off of Santa Monica onto Sepulveda. There were flashes of bright lights at the gas station on the corner. Wth? Focusing on the station, we saw an unusual amount of cars and then suddenly there was a mad scramble as everyone ran back to their vehicles. Holding huge cameras. Huh. It was like a photographer's version of musical chairs. Then the arrow turned green so we took the left...only to have a near-collision with a BMW that was accelerating backwards out of the gas station. Then we were halted by a car that was turning out of the station in FRONT of us, merely holding out a hand to stop us. Three other cars chased after and we went on our merry way without further incident.

Wonder who that celebrity was that they were following? So are we.

demarcate = to separate distinctly

Word of the day! Expand your vocabulary! I stumbled across this word at work yesterday and thought I'd share with everyone! Vinh decided to integrate it into his vernacular right away last night.

"I demarcate this sofa!" he announced proudly and proceeded to draw an imaginary line on the couch between himself and Linda. This means that Linda exploited the said demarcation for the next 15 minutes by taking every chance to insult him. Every time Vinh was about to lunge at her, Linda retorted "Demarcated!". Eventually, Vinh removed the imaginary line and attacked. But it was amusing while it lasted. And hey, now you can remember the word "demarcate".

Almost as good as "phenomena".

Quote that.

From Randy Jackson of American Idol fame, compliments of ew.com:

''San Diego was da bomb,'' Jackson says, adding, ''That's D.A. Space. B.O.M.B.''

Yay for supporting SD. He should have stopped after the first sentence.

A random outing indeed

For some reason, I've been freakishly hungry since this past weekend. So when I smelled something savory last night when I entered the elevator, I was hoping that the smell was wafting from my apartment. Indeed it was! My roommates made some yummy fajitas. While I ate, Vinh and Swan started channel surfing and ended up on the CW. Apparently, they used to watch One Tree Hill regularly, but they stopped after season two. It's now season five of the show so we were quite confused as to what was going on. But this led to the sudden revelation of "Hey! Let's watch the first four seasons!"

If you've never been to my apartment, I guess you wouldn't realize what TV DVD fiends we are. You name the show, we probably have it. We have an entire shelf from floor to ceiling dedicated to DVD box sets. As Vinh lamented last night, he's even had to start stacking 24 and West Wing horizontally.

In addition to impulsive One Tree Hill viewing, Swan had a craving for MickieD's french fries. Hey, why not? Who can say no to a dessert of apple pie? And then we set out into the LA night...on the road for One Tree Hill DVDs and MickieD's. One caramel sundae, two apple pies, large fries and six nuggets later with DVDs in hand, we returned to the apartment feeling productive and content. We are so weird.
